Ceeya Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-27
Ceeya is a food-scanning app. You scan a packaged food’s barcode, or photograph its label and front, and Ceeya tells you what the product is and what the evidence says about what is in it. This policy says what Ceeya collects when you do that, why, who else handles it, how long we keep it, and how to have it deleted.
Ceeya is made by Ceeya LLC, a company in the United States, and the app is offered to people in the United States.
No account is needed
Ceeya does not ask you to sign in, create an account, or give an email address at this time. Instead, the app makes a random install identifier on your phone the first time it runs. Everything the app sends us is filed under that identifier, not under your name. The app also uses Apple’s App Attest and DeviceCheck to confirm to our servers that it is a genuine copy of Ceeya.
What we collect
When you use Ceeya, we receive and store:
- The barcodes you scan, and when you scanned them.
- The photos you take in the app of a product’s label and front. Before we store a photo we remove the location and device details your phone attaches to it. We keep the photo as information about that product.
- The reading of each photo: the request we sent to the AI model and the reply it gave. We keep these so we can check the readings and improve them.
- The products and lists you save.
- A referral code, and a record of the notifications we have sent you.
- How you use the app: which screens you opened, how far into a result you read, and how long things took, together with crash reports. This does not include your photos, label text, the AI’s replies, or anything you type.
We do not collect your name, email address, location, contacts, or health information.
Why we collect it
We use this information to identify the product you scanned, read its label, show you the result, keep your saved products and lists, send you notifications, and keep the app working and improving. We do not use your photos to train AI models.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your information and we do not show advertising. We share it only with the companies that run parts of the service for us:
- OpenRouter, and the AI model providers it routes to, receive your photos and label text in order to read the label. Ceeya does not use your photos to train models. The providers’ own terms govern their side.
- PostHog receives usage events and crash reports under your install identifier. It never receives your photos, label text, the AI’s replies, or free text.
- Cloudflare hosts the app’s servers and images. Amazon Web Services hosts the database.
- When a paid tier exists, Apple and RevenueCat handle payment. Ceeya never sees your card details.
Each of these companies is required to protect your information at least as well as this policy says we do.
How long we keep it
Information about a product (its barcode, the photos of it, and what the label says) is kept as product information so that the next person who scans the same product gets the answer.
Records of your own activity, such as which install scanned what and when, are kept while your install is active.
How to delete your information
In the app, open Settings and tap Delete my data. We hold the request for 30 days, and you can cancel it in the same place until then. After the 30 days we delete everything tied to your install identifier. The app keeps working while the request is held. Questions about a deletion go to [email protected].
Two things remain after a deletion: product information, including photos of products, with the link to your install removed; and hashed signals we use to prevent abuse, which are kept for up to 180 days. Backups expire within 14 days after a deletion.
You can stop the app’s camera access at any time in your phone’s Settings. The app cannot photograph a label without it.
Children
Ceeya is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will post the new version here with a new date at the top.
